Observing the final stages...

I cannot help myself, I must collect moments of my life and the lives of those around me. I feel that if I don't, they will be lost forever. Moments, objects, light, sounds, interactions, all get recorded in books or on my phone. I feel a great personal responsibility as an observer to document the things around me. This in-turn helps me address my own existence and helps me answer some of life's difficult questions. Through my documentations, one day my life may be validated in some way when I'm gone. I did exist, I did live.

These are charcoal studies of the final stages of my father-in-laws life. He had dementia and his deterioration was quick. I found it important to address my grief for this complicated man through drawing. I feel ready to share them.
